"Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in service of the United States of America."

Do you know the history and significance of Red Poppies on Memorial Day?

In 1915, Moina Michael wrote a poem inspired by another poem called "The Flanders Field".

We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.
       Moina Michael

She then became the first to wear red poppies on Memorial Day in honor of the lives lost during war. She even sold them to her friends and co-workers and donated the money to servicemen in need. From there, this tradition grew wildly throughout the world! Other nations now display red poppies as a symbol of memorial for the lost in their war history.

"The Blood Swept Lands And Seas of Red exhibition, by artist Paul Cummins, involves 888,246 ceramic poppies planted in the dry moat at the Tower. A poppy has been made for each British and Colonial death during the conflict. The final one … "The Blood Swept Lands And Seas of Red exhibition, by artist Paul Cummins, involves 888,246 ceramic poppies planted in the dry moat at the Tower. A poppy has been made for each British and Colonial death during the conflict. The final one …

Artificial red poppies made by disabled veterans are now sold all over the nation.

On Memorial Day, take a moment to honor those who lost their lives serving this great nation. TSSi sincerely thanks past, present, and future servicemen and women for their brave sacrifice!
